Art Programs ArtsYES Artmobile

Artmobile

Each summer, for seven weeks, the Artmobile! van—packed with supplies—winds through the streets of the East Side, rain or shine, sticky or cool. No registration is required for the free, drop-in art classes taught by professional artists in area parks and recreation centers. Participation is open to all. Last year, the Artmobile reached more than 1,000 kids.

Participating artists in 2010 included Toki Wright (writing and spoken word), Gita Ghei and Stacie Forbes (visual arts), Margo McCreary (puppetry), Mayumi Amada (paper arts) and Danny Zimmerschied (hip hop dance). Previous summers have offered artists Ta-Coumba Aiken, Cochise Anderson, Roy McBride, Marc Anderson, Francis Kofi, Ken Greene, Felipe Espinoza-Day, Esther Ouray, Io Palmer, Julie Truong, Malia Burkhart, and Silvia Pontaza.

The Artmobile is made possible, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council from an appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature. Additional funds for this activity are provided by the Medtronic Arts Access Program, the Elmer L. & Eleanor J. Andersen Foundation, and the Arts and Diversity Committee of the St. Paul Travelers generous support made available through a grant to COMPAS.
