EastSide KidVenture
EastSide KidVenture, a collaboration with the City of St. Paul and 21 community-based organizations, offers school-year and summer learning opportunities for students focused on engendering a sense of place and pride in the neighborhood.
Many families in the Dayton’s Bluff and Payne/Phalen neighborhoods need quality after-school and summer learning opportunities to ensure children have a safe and engaging place to be when parents and guardians are working. Yet many families on the East Side face cost, transportation and language barriers to participation. EastSide KidVenture successfully addresses these barriers through free day camps for students in grades Kindergarten through 6th.
Past camp themes have included Art Around the World Camp, Pirate Camp, Dream Camp, Acting Up Theatre Camp, Bookarts Camp, and Arctic Explorers Camp. Older youth have explored “Home, Hope and Hip-Hop” as well as community issues of their choosing.
High school students in the East Side Teen Teacher Corps serve as junior group leaders for the younger children and focus on leadership skill development. They are paid through the City’s Youth Job Corps program.
