Call for Poetry Submissions

The Changing of the Seasons in Nature

Open call: July 18, 2025

Closes August 31, 2025

Call for poets to submit their poetry for the Poets' Post at Phalen Poetry Park. We are looking for poetry submissions revolving around the theme of "The Changing of the Seasons in Nature." If you have a haiku or a poem that is a page or less in length using the theme, we would love to have it on our Poets' Post. You can submit up to 2 poems. Selected poems will be displayed for fall 2025.

What we are not accepting:

  • Themes that are outside the mentioned theme, anything controversial that may fall under politics, war, and destruction/crisis issues.

  • Poems longer than a page

  • Violence, profanity, and slur of any kind

Please submit all materials and questions to Ida at esac@eastsideartscouncil.org

The Phalen Poetry Park aspires to:

-Create an artistic community space
- Promote individual writers
-Foster an audience for literature

The park is an urban park created and maintained by ESAC, where the community can celebrate the language arts with poetry posted on the Poets' Post - a sculptural piece featuring changing poetry by local poets and students. Are you a budding writer? Why not share your poems? Submit poems for display to esac@eastsideartscouncil.org

A walkway of words etched in stone, to inspire the poet within, circle the post and lead to the Dragon Garden. Relax on the giant Book Benches and marvel at the surrounding beauty.

The Dragon Garden graces the area, featuring benches that resemble giant books. It awaits you for meditation, poetry readings or an evening of community gardening to keep the dragon beautiful.

In addition to gardening help, we always welcome financial contributions to be able to purchase plants and other materials, as well as to support other projects, such as maintenance of the Post and benches and creation of a bell 'sculpture'. Again, many thanks to those of you who supported us last year.

VolunteerING

Gatherings for gardening take place once a week in the spring and summer.

Please email the Program Coordinator at esac@eastsideartscouncil.org or call (651) 774-5422 to for questions or sign up to help!
